The wide brim of his hat obscured his flustered expression.
Jiang Ciyuan was even more striking in person than in the photos the system had provided, not only due to his superior looks but also his aura—a cold and subtle poise that came from years of being in power.
This kind of pressure could only be genuinely felt in the same space.
Tong Sui suddenly regretted impulsively rushing in.
He could hear the sound of polished shoes approaching him, and his nerves peaked at that moment.
Jiang Ciyuan reached over him to grab the empty clothes hanger behind him.
Tong Sui stared at his hand.
His fingers were long, and the cold skin had prominent veins visible. A silver ring adorned his index finger, glimmering under the indoor lights like an expensive piece of art.
Jiang Ciyuan merely took the hanger, walked to the counter to speak to a staff member, and then entered the fitting room.
As he left, the tension in the air dissipated, and Tong Sui exhaled in relief.
However, instead of feeling happy, a sense of inexplicable loss filled him since Jiang Ciyuan seemed oblivious to his presence.
It was actually quite normal…
After all, Jiang Ciyuan was a rather aloof person, and the gaze he had just cast at people probably only inspired annoyance.
At that moment, a staff member suddenly approached with a shirt in hand and said, “Sir.”
Tong Sui looked up in confusion.
The staff member continued, “This is what Mr. Jiang asked me to give you, as he noticed you seemed to like it.”
Tong Sui stared at the white shirt in the staff member’s hands and felt his eyelashes flutter.
This was the same style that Jiang Ciyuan had worn earlier.
His heart raced for a heartbeat, all because of a trivial matter.
The staff member asked, “Would you like to try it on?”
Tong Sui took the shirt and headed towards the fitting room.
He heard a click as one of the fitting room doors opened, revealing Jiang Ciyuan who had changed back into his own clothes, with the same style white shirt draped over his arm, the top button undone, which softened the intimidating aura he usually exuded.
As Jiang Ciyuan passed by Tong Sui, he gave a slight nod but did not pause.
Now Tong Sui began to hesitate.
He was a bit afraid that if he changed clothes, Jiang Ciyuan would leave first.
But Tong Sui knew this was quite normal; after all, they were merely crossing paths. He wouldn’t delude himself into thinking Jiang Ciyuan had taken a liking to him.
With a nervous heart, Tong Sui entered the fitting room.
Zhou Zhe saw Jiang Ciyuan exit the fitting room dressed appropriately and muttered, “Mr. Jiang.”
Jiang Ciyuan responded with a grunt.
Zhou Zhe had a hundred questions he wanted to ask, the most puzzling being why Jiang Ciyuan had taken such a wide detour.
He could have brought someone along himself and spent his own money, given his remarkable looks and financial ability; no one would refuse him even if he suggested financial support—but instead, he chose to act as if this was a chance encounter.
Zhou Zhe really couldn’t figure out what his boss was up to.
Tong Sui, fearing that Jiang Ciyuan would actually leave, quickly changed clothes and didn’t even bother to check his reflection before hastily stepping out.
He found the familiar figure in the store’s lounge—Jiang Ciyuan sat in a single sofa, resting his chin on one hand while casually flipping through a fashion magazine.
The staff saw Tong Sui come out and quickly said, “You look different in this outfit compared to Mr. Jiang.”
Tong Sui glanced at the fitting mirror.
The same style looked more fitted on Jiang Ciyuan, thanks to the well-defined shoulder and back muscles gained from years of training.
In contrast, Tong Sui had a more slender and youthful frame; the clothes looked more relaxed and casual on him.
Unbeknownst to him, Jiang Ciyuan had raised his head at some point, stating, “The outfit suits you well.”
Tong Sui’s heart raced as he turned his head to look around, confirming that there was no one else in the store.
Jiang Ciyuan was talking to him.
Perhaps sensing that Jiang Ciyuan didn’t despise him that much, Tong Sui boldly said, “It’s mainly because you have good taste. If you don’t mind, could you accompany me in picking out some clothes?”
He rushed through his words, feeling his hands tense at his sides.
He heard the soft snap of the magazine being closed.
Jiang Ciyuan replied, “What style do you like?”
Tong Sui was momentarily stunned. Did that count as an agreement?
He took a moment to respond, “The usual outfits for the program.”
Jiang Ciyuan nodded and stood up to begin selecting clothes.
Tong Sui stood by, dumbfounded as he watched.
As he lowered his eyelashes, his fingers grazed over the rows of clothes. Unlike Tong Sui’s aimlessness, Jiang Ciyuan quickly picked out several outfits with no signs of stopping.
Tong Sui glanced at the price tag discreetly.
After counting the figures, he gasped.
This was way too expensive!
Although the program team would cover the costs, there was no way Tong Sui could match Jiang Ciyuan’s nonchalant decisiveness when shopping like this.
He cautiously approached Zhou Zhe and whispered, “Zhou Zhou, if we buy this way, won’t the program’s budget really go overboard?”
Zhou Zhe replied, “…”
Don’t worry, with the boss around, they could easily buy out the entire mall without issues. Oh, wait, the mall was originally an investment by the boss.
Tong Sui watched his expressions change rapidly and muttered, “Zhou Zhou?”
Zhou Zhe snapped back to reality, “Rest assured, this quarter’s investors are very strong; this expenditure is merely a drop in the ocean.”
Only then did Tong Sui feel reassured.
The types of clothes Jiang Ciyuan chose for him covered various styles, all leaning towards loose and casual, considering his young age.
“Thank you for your help,” Tong Sui finally remembered to ask, “Am I taking up too much of your time?”
